The AFL Sweden Membership drive ran throughout the months of June, July and August with the goal to recruit new members to our clubs across the country. Members, whether social, juniors or senior players all play an important role in the wellbeing of a footy club. AFL Sweden will continue to encourage clubs to break new ground in membership recruitment in the coming years!
The prize for the club which was able to recruit the most new members was 2 Sherrin footballs.
We are happy to announce that the Port Malmö club were clear winners with a total of 31 new members during the drive.
Congratulations to the Malmö club and we hope that the newly registered members continue to be a vital part of your club in future years.
The 2017 International Cup, in Melbourne, Australia isfast approaching and it is now time for you to register your interest in playing for the Swedish men's national team ELKS.
AFL Sweden are now recruiting for two volunteer positions within the association. Volunteers are the lifeblood of our game and make it possible for our players to play the game they love.
The two positions available are:
Swedish Elks Team Manager - The men's national team are looking for a new team manager since the recent departure of AFL Sweden President Ryan Tucker from the post. The team manager is responsible for organisational duties surrounding the team and reports to the team coach. This includes booking fields/halls for training, booking accomodation, communication with players and AFL Sweden as well as administrative duties heading in to IC17. The team manager will also be expected to follow the team to Australia when they compete at the International Cup in August 2017.
Sponsorship Manager - AFL Sweden as a whole cannot function properly without the help of sponsors. The association realises that more focus needs to be put on procuring and maintaining sponsors within the sport at all levels and are therefore looking for an idividual that can take on this role. Sponsorhip is primarily needed for national teams in their bids to compete in international competitions but also in the development of umpiring and domestic football. The new sponsorship manager should posses the ability to work individually and have the drive and creativity to lift the sport to greater heights.
The following players have been selected in the Swedish Elks squad to play at the 2016 European Championships in London, England.
Congratulations to all players on their selection.
7 News Australia recently paid a visit to a SAFF (Stockholm Australian Football Federation) league game between the Bromma Vikings and Solna Axemen.
Whilst covering the Eurovision contest being held in Stockholm the same weekend, a film crew and reporter were on site at Skarpnäcks sportfält doing a story which was shown on Australian TV this evening.
Solna and Swedish national team players Oscar Magnusson and Fredrik Rydbert were interviewed as well as Australians Jason Delos and Paul Siega.

The Swedish AFL season is upon us with Helsingborg playing their first game of the season in the DAFL last Saturday and Malmö set to play in their first fixture this coming weekend. For the SAFF, the season is set to get underway at the end of April, although, preseason games will take place over the next couple of weekends.
Along with the local competitions kicking off, the Swedish national men’s team’s 2016 season is also set to begin. The appointment of new Elks head coach for the upcoming season, Brett Petersen, was determined by AFL Sweden at the beginning of the month, which was the first step of putting together a strong Swedish team that will participate in the Euro Cup in October.
