The Swedish women’s national team, also known as the Ravens, was formed in 2015 on the back of the continued growth of footy in Sweden. Women from Helsingborg Wolverines and Port Malmö Lynx combined to make history by being the first Swedish women’s team to compete at international level.
The first competition played was the 2015 Nordic Challenge against neighbouring Denmark and Norway. The Ravens hosted the tournament together with the men’s team and rallied to take home the trophy by comfortably beating both teams.
Following on from the success of the Nordic Challenge the Ravens attended the2015 9-a side Euro Cup in Umag, Croatia. Playing against France then Great Britain (the eventual tournament winners) proved a tough asking as Sweden was left to battle out for 5th place against a rejuvenated Norwegian team.
The Ravens are continually looking to build their team and encourage all women from around Sweden to get in touch with their local club to find out how they can start playing!
