Junior football has long been seen as a key element to the longivety of the game. Without younger generations getting involved in the sport there is a risk that when the older players stop playing the sport will cease to exist.
It is therefore important to have an active junior development program that can be utilised at both club and school level.
The AFL Sweden board has in its 2016 objectives to create a Junior Development program that can be rolled out across Sweden where volunteers/coaches can use the information and tools provided to teach young kinds how to play footy.
Junior footy has already a head start with 3 teams currently training and playing. In Stockholm, Södermalm and Bromma have junior divisions within their clubs as do Port Malmö in the south. Norrtälje will also in 2016 put together a junior team to play against the Stockholm juniors.
